Sarah and Sparky

Sarah & Sparky are both from winemaking families. They complemented one another from the beginning, both love sport (Sarah plays soccer, and Sparky loves to ski), and in winemaking Sarah is a master blender and Sparky an expert in canopy management. They built 5 explosively successful wine brands and then in 2005 started what has become known as the Mollydooker Phenomenon. They and their two kids, Luke and Holly, are having a ball.

The Vineyards

Sparky spent 10 years selecting the best vineyards in McLaren Vale, Padthaway and Langhorne Creek. All of the vineyards use the Marquis Vineyard Watering Programme , and the Mollydooker vineyard team measures the vineyards twice a week during the growing season. The Programme ripens the vines so that they can produce grapes of exceptional color and flavor, giving a velvet glove of Marquis Fruit Weight to the wines.

The Winemaking

With ‘attention to detail and commitment to excellence’ as their watchwords the cellar team painstakingly nurture the wines through barrel ferments and maturation. Using intricate oak profiling the wines are racked from barrel to barrel every 3 months. Sarah and Sparky spend hours and hours in a ‘cone of silence’ at the tasting bench, assessing the Marquis Fruit Weight of each wine, and deciding on the blends.
